TiMP 6.27.09

My dear friend Temple and I made plans to hike Mt. Timp. I think this all came along around my birthday time when a few of my friends were saying they wanted to do it. So we planned a day to do it. Which was yesterday. We decided to make an event of it and invite all the girls in our little 'tuff chix outdoors club' we have on facebook and put the invite out there for any of my friends who might want to go. The funny part is 6 people showed, or I should say 4 besides Temple and I. HaHa. When it comes down to waking up at 5 in the morning I think people have the hopes of doing it but when the alarm goes off, your mind and body say to do otherwise. To say the least we had a good time. An old friend Bryan came, Jake and Jeremy who I went to school with and reconnected through facebook with (I'm tellin ya, facebook is a fun thing), and one of Temples friends on FB, Adam came.
I knew going up late June that there would be snow. I really had no idea though just how much! I didn't expect how much was up there! It definitely made it interesting for an adventure though! We weren't able to get to the top. For those of you who have hiked Timp before, we were only able to get to the bowl (or meadow) which wasn't so full of flowers and pure beauty... Well I guess it was the beauty of snow... yah, which is still absolutely beautiful.
It took us about 7 hours round-trip. The snow slowed us down, but also sped us up being able to slide down a lot of it on the way back. But we also took many breaks. When I go back to do it in August, I will only be inviting serious hikers. haha I do not mean to sound snotty with that sentence in the slightest. I have nothing against those who like to take it a little slower, or don't enjoy those.  I get in my hiking Zone and on such a long hike you almost need to get in that Zone to accomplish such a HUGE task. I don't ever want to frustrate someone so much that they don't ever want to go with me again (which i'm pretty sure I have done before).
Its an amazing experience. It truly is ESPECIALLY when you can get to the top :). Simply, BEAUTIFUL. I recommend it to anyone who feels they can do it!

We are going to MT. Timp. this summer too. We were going to go in April cause thats what the kids wanted to do for their birthday, little Aleks got sick the day before we were suppose to go. Maybe its a good thing we didn't go cause if there was snow when you went there would have been waay more in April. We are going to go in August too. We invited a bunch of people too. I have done it once and it was cool, I got into hike mode and its true that you have to be in the zone to do that stuff. Anyway long comment I know. Talk to you soon.
