When Alyssa came home from school today and says "Mom, i have a few things for you to look over and sign", I figured The usual thing, field trip maybe, spring pictures... etc. I had no Idea what I saw, would be coming so fast... An invitation to the Maturation Program they are having at school! I was just talking to my Sister Megan about this last week and telling her I was dreading when it arrives! I think Its merely the fact that this is my cute little baby girl, Alyssa, for one. Alyssa who just started pre-school what seems like maybe a year ago, Cute little Alyssa that just learned to ride a bike. Wow, Im sounding like my father. For two.. If she's old enough to be getting informed of Maturing, or soon to be celebrating womanhood.. I am getting old! Which is not something I like to think about. She is in her 11th year. I remember well sitting at the school with my mom, feeling SO uncomfortable. Probably because speaking of anything like that in my home growing up was awkward, and just not brought up.. or almost ignored if it was brought up. I remember an episode of Punky Brewster coming on and she, getting her first Bra. My Dad quickly changed the channel. I laughed to myself thinking 'Does he not think we will be (Megan probably was) wearing those anytime soon?'. I keep playing scenarios in my head to better explain my point of view on things to Lys, without her feeling uncomfortable. Oh, one of the Joys of parenting! :) Great, whats next?! If anyone has suggestions, or experiences, I am more than open to hearing them..

I thought the Maturation Program was pretty good. Good way to talk about Everything, if ya haven't already. Also lets you know about some good books that they can read, if they are too shy to ask. But your a cool Mom, I'm sure you guys will have fun! :)
Haha, that is so funny you got this right after we talked about it! Good luck, better have some good advice when I have to deal with this in a few years! :)
Oh, so funny! We actually just had to have "the talk" with Kaden... (yes THAT talk! The whole sha-bang!) I thought he was WAY too young, but after talking to LOTS of friends and neighbors with older kids, I was surprised that most do it before they get baptized... (that seemed sooo young to me!), but most everyone agreed that it wasn't and that many of them have even heard ALL about it at school by then anyway! (Aye carumba! A sign of the day and age we are raising kids in, I guess.) Anyway, we had a really good experience with him and I hope it really opened the lines of communication and trust so that it will be as comfortable as possible. You guys will do great. Call me if you want to hear more "details" and/or ideas! :)
